Replying by Email

Reply straight from your inbox to some notification emails — and learn which emails you cannot reply to.

Some notification emails from American Gun Trader let you reply straight from your email app — your reply is posted to the conversation on-platform, just as if you had typed it on the site. Other emails are automated and cannot be replied to. Here is how to tell them apart.

Quick steps

  1. Open a notification email about a conversation (a new message, group message, or an @mention)
  2. Look for the “You can reply to this email” banner at the top
  3. Hit Reply in your email app and type above the quoted text
  4. Send — your reply appears in the thread and the other person is notified

Emails you can reply to

If an email is about a conversation, you can answer it without opening the site. These carry a “You can reply to this email” banner and go to a special reply address unique to that thread:

  • New direct message — a buyer or seller messaged you. See Your Inbox.
  • New group message — activity in a group chat you belong to.
  • You were @mentioned — someone tagged your username in a group chat or a comment.

Your reply is posted to that exact thread and the other person is notified through their own notification settings. We automatically strip the quoted history and your signature, so only what you actually wrote gets posted.

Reply from the email you were sent to. The reply address is tied to your account and that conversation. Forwarding the email to someone else, or replying from a different address, will not post — for security, only you can answer your own threads.

Emails you cannot reply to

Automated and account emails come from a no-reply address. Replying to them does nothing. These include:

  • Moderation decisions and content warnings
  • Payment receipts and billing notices
  • Email verification and password resets
  • The weekly newsletter and platform announcements

Need a human for one of these? Open Support from your account (Messages → Support) and the team will help.

The same rules still apply

An emailed reply is treated exactly like a message typed on the site — every protection is enforced:

  • Typed phone numbers and email addresses are redacted. See Sharing My Contact Details for how to share verified contact info the right way.
  • Content moderation runs on your reply, and repeated violations can trigger warnings or temporary messaging limits.
  • If you have blocked, or been blocked by, the other person, the reply will not go through. See Blocking and Reporting.

Prefer not to get these emails?

Email replies ride on top of your existing notification emails. To change which ones you receive — or turn a type off entirely — open Settings → Notifications. Push and in-app notifications are controlled there too.

Common questions

Which notification emails can I reply to?
Emails about a conversation — new direct messages, group messages, and when someone @mentions you — let you reply straight from your inbox. Your reply is posted to that same thread on American Gun Trader.
What happens to my emailed reply?
It is posted to the thread as if you had typed it on the site, and the other person is notified. Quoted history and signatures are stripped automatically.
Which emails can I NOT reply to?
Automated notifications — moderation decisions, receipts, verification, newsletters, and system alerts. Those come from a no-reply address. For help with those, open Support from your account (Messages → Support).
Do the normal messaging rules still apply to email replies?
Yes. The same protections apply — typed phone numbers and emails are redacted, content moderation runs, and blocks or messaging limits are enforced exactly as they are on-site.
