Email vs Push Notifications

When we use email, when we use a phone push, and how to pick both or neither.

Email goes to your inbox. Push goes to your phone. You can use either, both, or neither for every type of notification.

Quick reference

  1. Email: works everywhere, creates a record
  2. Push: faster, only with the mobile app installed
  3. Both: belt and suspenders for important sellers
  4. Neither: see notifications only when you visit the site

Email pros and cons

Pros: works on any device, archives in your inbox, easy to search later, no app needed.

Cons: slower (minutes, not seconds), can land in spam, adds to inbox clutter.

Push pros and cons

Pros: instant, attention-grabbing, doesn't fill an inbox.

Cons: requires the mobile app installed and logged in, easy to miss if you silenced notifications system-wide.

  • Active seller: Push for new messages and bid wins, Email for everything else.
  • Casual buyer: Email only, low-priority categories off.
  • Inbox zero person: Push only, no marketing emails.

Changing your preferences

Open Settings → Notifications to toggle email and push independently for each event type.

Common questions

Will I get duplicate notifications?
No. If you have both email and push enabled, the system avoids sending both for the same event in most cases.
