Placing a Bid

How to bid on an auction listing and what happens when you do.

Auction listings let you bid against other members. Highest bid at end of auction wins — and is binding.

Quick steps

  1. Open an auction listing
  2. Enter your maximum bid
  3. Click Place Max Bid and confirm

What you'll need

  • A verified account (email and phone)
  • A clear understanding of the seller's shipping and transfer terms

How bidding works

The amount you enter is your maximum bid, not necessarily what you'll pay. The platform bids on your behalf — one increment (5%) at a time — up to that maximum, only as much as needed to stay ahead of other bidders. You never have to keep coming back to raise your own bid manually.

What your max bid has to be

  • At least 5% above the current bid (or the starting price, if you are first).
  • No upper limit — set your true ceiling. Other bidders never see your maximum, only the current standing bid.
  • You cannot bid on your own listing.

After you place a bid, the auction appears in your bid card grid on My Bids.
Bids are binding. Be sure of your maximum before confirming — you cannot retract a bid.

If you win

You get an email and push notification at end of auction. From there, message the seller to coordinate payment, shipping, and (if interstate) the FFL transfer.

If you do not win

No penalty — you owe nothing. If someone outbids your maximum, you'll get notified so you can raise it if you want to stay in. The listing closes and you can move on if you don't.

Anti-sniping: the clock can extend

A bid placed in the final minutes of an auction pushes the end time out, giving other bidders a fair chance to respond — see Anti-Snipe Extensions & Max Bids for the exact rules.

Common questions

Can I retract a bid I placed by mistake?
No. Bids are binding once placed. Be sure of your amount before confirming.
